History meets future- Celebration of 70 years AIG Belgium

Pierre-Emmanuel Bogaerts, Branch Manager AIG Belux

On November 15th, AIG Belgium celebrated its 70th anniversary at the Koloniënpaleis in Tervuren. Over 350 attendees came together, including all AIG Belgium employees, partners and clients who all have been instrumental to the success of our company so far. The purpose of the event was to share a special moment together and most of all to thank our people and shareholders for the rewarding collaboration in the past 70 years.

The Branch Manager of AIG Belux, Pierre-Emmanuel Bogaerts, presented his thoughts and learnings, looking back to the beginnings of AIG Belgium, and looking ahead to what the future may hold.

“70 years ago, in 1948, the Brussels Pact (the European Union in later years) was signed among others by the United Kingdom and the Benelux. In that same year, Belgium achieved great successes at the Olympic Games in London, resulting in two golden medals. We are now in 2018 and we’ll soon separate from the UK due to the Brexit. In anticipation of the possible consequences of Brexit, AIG has established a new insurance company in Luxembourg. From 1 December 2018, the risks for continental Europe will no longer be guaranteed by the British insurer AIG Limited, but by the new Luxembourg insurer AIG Europe SA."

Pierre-Emmanuel added: “The most important thing is that we’ve been here for the past 70 years to offer you the most adequate insurance solutions.  We’ve had ups and downs during this period (think about the financial crisis of 2008 and the fact that you supported us) but we’ve always strived to be creative and answer our customers’ needs (such as by creating the Director & Officers market with the first policy bound in 1987 or more recently, but already 6 years ago, in 2012 by writing our first Cyber policy).  We’ve always done our best to offer you the best solutions and the best quality of service.  I don’t exactly know what the world will look like in 70 years from now… But there is only one thing that I know for sure and it’s something that will never change. This is trust. Without trust we couldn’t have built our partnerships and we wouldn’t be here all together this evening. We will never forget it and will continue to write business, create value for all parties, bring you solutions, year after year, stronger than ever, over the next 70 (or more) coming years.”

Charlie Kitson, Head of Client Engagement at AIG

“It is our goal to give clients a great customer experience and to become their carrier of choice!’’

The celebration of AIG Belgium’s anniversary was a valuable evening at a historic location. We have looked back to the past and looked forward to what is coming up. One thing is for sure: we can not wait to start writing our future together.
